Wool

Kinza Saidi

Verb: To gather / Material: WoolThe folly is a textile based intervention suspended within the existing barn structure. In a rural context where shared spaces can be scarce, the project proposes a place where people can come together through the use of wool, a local material often left unused. Knitted surfaces are tensioned through a network of cables attached to the wooden trusses, allowing the installation to anchor itself within the building. As people lean against it, the wool gently deforms and slowly retains subtle marks of use, letting the space evolve with the presence of those who inhabit it. Inside, a woven wool surface offers a place to sit in direct contact with the material. Above, a knitted canopy can be tightened or loosened, shifting the height and atmosphere of the space. Designed at a small scale, the folly encourages small gatherings, conversations and shared moments within the barn.
